Competition Advocacy Academia Drive Seminars

As part of the Competition Advocacy Academia Drive, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) initiated the second leg by holding seminars at IoBM. The seminar was hosted by the department of Economics which was participated by faculty and students of all disciplines.

The seminar was started with recitation of holy Quran followed by translation. Dr. Shahida Wizarat, Dean CESD, Director Research and HoD economics gave her opening remarks where she highlighted the contemporary issues in the industry in Pakistan. Dr. Shahzad Ansar Advisor CCP highlighted the aims and objective of the Competition Advocacy Academia Drive.

The other speakers including Mr. Ahmed Qadir, Director General (International Affairs) and Mr. Noman Liaq, Director (Office of Fair Trade OFT) and Secretary Commission presented   the key concepts of competition, substantive provisions of the Competition Act, 2010, and initiatives taken by CCP for creating a level playing field in the economy.

The faculty members and students showed great interest in the seminars by actively participating in the discussions. Presentations by the members of CCP included an animation on Competition Law, a brief overview of the evolution of Competition Policy and Law worldwide, an outline of the Pakistan’s Competition Law, and a presentation on the role of the Office of Fair Trade (OFT) in curbing deceptive marketing practices.

Before the seminar a meeting of CCP representative with Rector IoBM held to discuss the “Module on Economics and Competition Law” and its possible adoption as Part of the course content of Analysis of Pakistan, industry. Mr. Muhammad Zubair concern faculty of the course and focal person to CCP was also present there.  The CCP team representative Ahmed Qadir, Director General, Competition Policy & Research and International Affairs, briefed the Rector IoBM Mr. Talib S. Karim and faculty about the module.
